Happy New Year – what’s really new?

If the new year feels all the same to you, you should read this.

A new year just started and we partied and we spread oh so many wishes around! As soon as the dust of all the celebrations settles, we find ourselves living under the same old daily routine. Same problems, same worries, same life. So, what’s all the fuss about? What is “new” really? Is it all the new year’s resolutions that we keep on making – and breaking perhaps, but who is counting, right? Is that new digit at the end of the date making a real difference? What’s “new”, if it feels just the same?

Some of you may think that it’s just no big deal really, just a celebration, a great holiday maybe. A chance to gather the family and exchange gifts and wishes – and bitter remarks, all well intended of course! Others may think that it’s a well-preserved myth that “new” year, probably best served to children. A more prosaic and rather negative view of the hole “new year” thing is that it’s a holiday created and preserved for commercial purposes.

So, what’s really new?

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but all that “new”-thing, just does not happen magically on its own. No, the elves aren’t making everything new in our lives, when the new year comes. If you want the new year to be a new beginning, a new start, you have to work for it. If you want your life to feel differently, you have to change it. And I am not talking about big, dramatic changes – although if you want, just go for them, there is nothing impossible to him who will try! Today I want to talk about small changes, that can make a difference.

Today I want to talk about a great principal, the most important rule in life: treat others the way you want to be treated. Oh, there is so much world-changing power in this life attitude. Just take a minute to think about it. How would our world be like, if we actually practiced that every single day! Can you imagine it? Treat everyone the way you want to be treated – that’s where all the real magic is!

So, let’s make this year really “new” by changing the way we treat the people around us. It’s not that hard, you can try it. And be assured, the reward you will receive will surprise you.

Happy new year everyone! May 2017 be positively life-changing for you! <3

  1. I decided to make the year new by changing myself for the better first then making sure before i expect a good deed, I will always be the one to initiate the good deed

  2. Nice post! Yes I agree totally if you really want a new year , a fresh start you must make that happen yourself. Starting small is the best way to go …..then the bigger changes will take care of themselves.

  3. I definitely want to work on myself and how I interact with others! This is a great boost in motivation for the things I want to do this year.

    1. I am glad my post works as a motivation for you, this was my goal, to be helpful. Thank you! 🙂

  4. You’re absolutely right. No change comes in an instant. Some you would have to work hard for. I think it’s awesome to treat others with respect and kindness. That’s something that we all must do regardless if it’s the new year or not.

    1. We should treat others the way we would like to be treated; it could work miracles in our world! 🙂

  5. New Years Day is my birthday so it’s extra special for me but it’s also a great time for reflection and looking back at the past year and what changes you really do need to be making to make yourself happier

    1. Happy birthday! It’s amazing that you start your year celebrating your birthday, it makes it very special. Reflecting to the past year in order to improve positive changes is very important! 🙂

  6. I set goals each year but not resolutions! I set large goals which I try and set smaller stepping stones to achieve. But totally agree that can happen at any time, not just each start of the year!

  7. So very true that you have to be the one who makes it new. It has to be you who makes it the new beginning or the new start.

You are also right that we should always treat others how we want to be treated. It is such an important principle that every parent should teach their child.

    1. I totally agree with you. Each parent should teach this principal to their child, it’s the most important thing they can give them. 🙂

  8. This is a rule I constantly strive to live by. It’s so important! Even though some people won’t do it in return…but most do. 🙂 Happy new year and I look forward to visiting your blog again soon!

    1. Some people may not return this behavior, but we certainly feel better with ourselves. Fortunately, most people treat you in the same way. 🙂 Happy new year!

  9. That is so true! It’s so easy to think that something new is happening and that it’s time to change the life when january starts, and everytime it’s kind of disappointing to realize that life goes on the same way as it always has.

    1. It’s really up to us to make the year “new”! Nothing happens magically on its own. 🙂

  10. New’s Year Day is my birthday as well. And I love it. Every year, I start off with a new age and year. Kinda funny, right?

I agree with your post, though. What changes? Old habits die hard.

    1. Old habits die hard, that’s true, nevertheless, we should try to change our attitude towards others. If we make the start, others will follow. 🙂
