Are you shaving your legs in the right way?

6 common mistakes you’re probably making, when you are shaving your legs.

Shaving is the easiest and quickest way to get rid of unwanted hair on your legs. Nevertheless, the result is not always very satisfying. If you are left with razor bumps, irritated and dry skin every time you’re shaving your legs, then you are definitely doing it wrong! Learn the 6 most common mistakes and enjoy beautiful legs every day.

1. Shaving your legs as soon as you get into the shower

You probably want to get it over with, as soon as you get into the shower. But it’s better to wait for 10 to 15 minutes before shaving your legs. The warm water and all the steam will soften your hair and your follicles will open up, so shaving will become easier and deeper. Your skin won’t get irritated. You shouldn’t wait more than 15 minutes though, because as time passes, your skin wrinkles from the water and you won’t be able to shave deeply and effectively.

2. Using soap

Soap is not ideal for shaving. You should use a moisturizing shaving foam or gel, in order to avoid cuts and nicks. Also, applying a little conditioner before shaving, softens your hair, making a deep shave easier.

3. Shaving towards the wrong direction

It’s better to shave in the direction your hair grows, that is downwards your leg, in order to avoid irritations. If you want a deeper shave, once you’ve shaved downwards, you can apply a second layer of shaving foam and shave against the grain. But I wouldn’t recommend it, if your skin is very sensitive. Stick to the downwards shaving.

Shaving can cause you irritations and damaged skin, if it’s not done correctly.

4. Using the wrong razor

Single-blade razors can be very tough on your skin and they usually cause irritations, not to mention they are not very effective in shaving everything. You should use a multi-blades razor, one specially designed for shaving women’s legs. If your skin is very sensitive, choose a multi-blades razor that has extra protective and moisturizing stripes attached.

5. Not replacing your razor blade often enough

Blades become dull after a few shaves. They stop being effective and they also cause irritations. So, you should replace them often. Moreover, you should dry your razor well after each use and keep it in a dry place, in order to prevent bacteria or fungus from growing on it. Otherwise, you may infect your skin while shaving. Not sharing your razor is also very essential too, in order to avoid bacterial infections.

6. Not exfoliating often enough

Exfoliating helps your skin renew and it keeps it healthy. It also makes it softer, so shaving becomes easier, leaving your skin without irritations. Exfoliating also helps you get rid of ingrown hair, so you should do it often.

So, now you know how to shave your legs, in order to get great results. Apply a moisturizing cream or body lotion – you can choose one that relieves irritated and sensitive skin – after shaving and you are ready to rock that dress!

Do you shave your legs or do you prefer other kinds of depilation?
