8 unusual uses of coffee for your home.

I am one of those persons that cannot start their day without a cup of coffee. I love drinking it, but also, I love using coffee around the house. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then it’s time to discover the alternative uses of coffee!

1. Get rid of bad smells in your fridge

Certain foods or food leftovers can leave a bad smell in your fridge. You don’t have to endure this every time you open the fridge door. Just put some fresh coffee grounds into a bowl and place it in your fridge. This will erase bad smells, leaving your fridge with a refreshing coffee smell!

2. Erase bad smell off your hands

I’m sure you hate the bad smells than linger on your hands after cooking. Take some used coffee grounds and rub your hands well. Then rinse them with warm water. Bad smells will be gone! If you want more tips for getting rid of bad smells on your hands read here.

3. Clean your fireplace easily

Do you want to clean your fireplace without creating a dust storm? Wait until the embers cool, sprinkle damp coffee grounds all over the ashes and let them sit for about 15 minutes. The coffee grounds will stick onto the ashes, so that you can easily sweep them, without making a mess around.

4. Use it as an ant repellant

Scatter dry, used coffee grounds where you’ve spotted ant passages. This will keep them away.

5. Fertilize your plants

Sprinkle used coffee grounds around the roots of azaleas, roses and other acid-loving plants.

6. Cover up furniture scratches

Make a thick paste using instant coffee and hot water. Then rub it onto the scratches. Repeat, if necessary, until you make them disappear.

7. Clean your cooking pots and pans easily

If you want to clean food remains or burnt-on grease on your pots and pans easily, sprinkle fresh coffee grounds, let them rest for a while and then rub them with a sponge dumped with dish detergent. Your pots and pans will shine clean easily.

8. Decorate your home

You can use coffee beans to decorate your home. Fill vases or bowls, create centerpieces with candles surrounded by coffee beans; let your imagination lead you! Your home will look and smell great!

  1. I didn’t realise coffee could be used for so many things! I often pick up a bag of the used granules from Starbucks for my garden but will try the other things too next time.

  4. Great information! I used them mainly as fertilizer, but now there are many other uses for it that are really great. I guess I won’t be throwing out anymore coffee grounds!
