How to boost your immune system naturally

10 ways to help you strengthen your immune system.

Most of us lead such a busy life, that we often feel overwhelmed, so the last thing we want is getting ill. We hardly have the time to stay in bed, so we need to do our best to fight all the viruses and microorganisms that attack us every day. Our immune system is our shield, so we’d better help it in any way we can! But do you know how you can boost it naturally? Just follow the tips bellow!

1. QUIT SMOKING

Smoking undermines basic immune defenses, not to mention all the damage caused to your lungs and other body organs. So, it’s time for that big decision to quit smoking.

2. DRINK LESS ALCOHOL

Alcohol causes severe damages to your immune system, so you’d better avoid excess consumption, if you want to stay healthy.

3. REDUCE STRESS

Stress is blamed for many contemporary health problems and for a good reason! It increases the hormone cortisol, which in return impairs our immune system, leaving us vulnerable to all kinds of infections and health problems. So, no matter how busy you are (aren’t we all, really?), try to find ways to reduce your stress levels. Exercise often, take yoga classes, pick some time during the day and do something relaxing, listen to music, read a book, meet with a friend and have a nice talk. I can go on forever with suggestions, but it’s really you who can take care of yourself and decide what is best for you in order to reduce your stress.

4. EXERCISE

Exercising can improve your health in many ways. It helps reducing stress and it strengthens not only our muscles, but also our immune system. So, start taking long walks, ride your bike whenever you can, go to the gym (actually go, don’t just join). Get up and start moving.

5. SLEEP MORE

Sleep deprivation is extremely harmful for our bodies. So, it’s very important to get enough sleep every night and, might I add, quality sleep.

6. EAT MORE VEGATABLES AND FRUITS

We’ve heard it way too many times, nevertheless we keep neglecting it, as we are so caught up in our extremely stressful and busy lifestyle. Vegetables and fruits are our number one ally. Our immune system needs all the vitamins and nutrients they offer. Adopting a healthy diet and avoiding junk food, can really work miracles on your health.

7. ADD GARLIC AND ONION TO YOUR MEALS

We usually add garlic and onion in our meals in order to make them more tasteful, but did you know that they have strong antimicrobial properties? They can really boost your immune system, so feel free to add them in your meals.

8. AVOID ANTIBIOTICS

You should take antibiotics only in serious infections and most definitely after consulting a doctor. Too many antibiotics damage your immune system and they make you more susceptible to illness.

9. USE IMMUNE-SUPPORTING HERBS

There are many herbs that can help you strengthen your immune system. People have been using them since ancient times and you can really get results. You can find a great variety in the market. Ginseng, astragalus, calendula etc., and my favorite yet, Echinacea.

10. STAY POSITIVE AND HAPPY

Have you ever noticed how you usually get ill, when you are sad and unhappy? This is not a coincidence. Your immune system needs happiness, laughs and smiles in order to stay strong. We all have problems, small or really serious, but try to stay positive. Try to see the glass half full. Avoid misery and just try to enjoy life as much as possible!

So, boosting your immune system takes changing your lifestyle and your habits. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth trying. After all, if you don’t take good care of yourself, nobody else will do it for you!
