Travel beauty survival tips

How to travel and look fabulous at the same time!

Whether you are travelling for business or fun, you certainly don’t want to compromise your beauty. You want to look your best at all times. So, here are some survival tips that will help you look and feel awesome, even if you are planning to travel by plane, which is extremely harsh for your beauty.

1. Moisturize

Use a deep moisturizer the night before your trip, so that your skin gets enough hydration, in order to endure the travelling conditions. You can even apply a moisturizing beauty mask.

2. Skip the foundation

Avoid applying a foundation on your face. It’s better to use a tinted moisturizer. It will keep your skin fresher. If you feel the need to wear a foundation, make sure you use a primer first, it will protect your skin and it will make your foundation more stable.

3. Avoid mascara

Smudged eyes are definitely unattractive, so it’s better to avoid mascara. If you take a nap on the way, you may wake up looking like a… zombie. You should also be very careful with your eyeshadows. Use a primer, it will help them stay in place. You should also go for a natural look, choosing soft colors.

4. Avoid long-lasting lipsticks

Long-lasting lipsticks usually tend to dry your lips after a while. So, it’s better to use a lip stain and add a lip balm on top or a hydrating lip gloss. Keep your lip balm in your bag and use it often, so that your lips are constantly hydrated.

5. Keep blotting papers handy

If your skin is oily, you should always carry blotting papers in your bag. They will save you from shinny skin.

6. Moisturize your hands

Your hand cream is also something you should carry in your bag. Apply it often during your trip to keep your hands well moisturized.

7. Avoid bright colored nail polish

Choose a natural look for your nails and avoid bright colors, that chip easily and make you look like you are neglecting your nails.

8. Mineral water mist

Carry with you a mineral water mist spray and use it often to freshen up your face.

9. Care for your eyes

If your trip is long and especially if you are travelling by plane, your pupils may dry out or get irritated, leaving you with red eyes. So, always carry eye drops that soothe your eyes, so that you can look your best.

10. Bad hair solutions

Keep a brush in your bag, so that you can brush your hair and tame your tresses. After a long trip, any kind of hat – depending on the weather conditions – may save you from a bad hair occasion. It will also make you look more chic and elegant.

11. A little shimmer can help

A long trip may leave you looking tired and pale. So, you can use a little shimmer to instantly freshen your look. Apply it lightly on the top of your cheeks and on the bridge of your nose.

12. Reduce the under-eye puffiness

After a long trip, your eyes are usually puffy and they make you look tired. In order to reduce the puffiness, put a little ice into a cloth and apply it under your eyes for a few minutes. And don’t forget to hydrate your skin well afterwards.

13. Pack your beauty products

Don’t go anywhere without your own beauty products. Do not trust the products in the hotels, since you don’t know how your skin or your hair will react.

14. Dry shampoo

You never know when you will need dry shampoo, so don’t forget it. It may save your hair after a long trip.

So, now you are ready for your next trip! Start planning!

  1. Most of the time, I don’t wear makeup on when I am traveling by plane. I find very helpful your tips about deep moisturizing before the trip. I never do these steps and they will really help my dry skin next time I travel. Thank you Rodanthi!!!

    1. I used to travel by plane a lot. The cabin conditions are really harsh for our skin. Moisturizing really helps. Moisturizing before, after and, when it’s possible, during the flight. I also avoid wearing makeup when I travel. Thank you!!! <3

  2. Great tips – I definitely feel you on the dry skin, lips and eyes (especially on long flights) – thank you for the great ideas for how to keep them feeling better 🙂

    1. I used to travel a lot by plane, so I had to find ways to deal with all the problems caused by the dry air conditions in the cabin. Those tips are also helpful for long travels by other means of transportation as well. Thank you!! 🙂

  3. This post made me question myself, because, in my whole life, I never did anything, from this list except for using hand creme… I guess it’s quite obvious that I don’t wear make-up or… yeah…

    1. Well, I think you should at least consider moisturizing your face well before and after your trip. Our face needs more care than our hands, I beleive. 🙂

    1. My skin is a little oily, so I love oil blotting papers! As for hand sanitizers, I carry them and I use them on every day basis – I may even be a little obsessed with the hygiene of my hands. 🙂

  4. I think these are great ideas. I had never considered mineral water spray. I really do need to start bringing blotting papers too.

    1. I find mineral water spray very helpful during summer. As for oil blotting papers, I find them very practical. You should try them. Thank you! 🙂

    1. Dry shampoo is a great asset on our beauty routine, especially when we are traveling. 🙂

  5. I never thought of making a list of how to survive a long trip and keep my beauty in the same time. So thank you for this. I usually bring my hair conditioner everywhere I go, because hard water makes my hair get very tangled and no brush can untangle it.

    1. Hard water makes my hair really… wild. Hahaha So, I always carry my own shampoo and conditioner. I generally don’t trust products that I don’t know on my skin and hair. 🙂

  6. These are great tips, I don’t like putting make-up on when I travel. If ever, it’s better to use cheek and lip tint and that it. I also make sure that I have a grooming kit in my bag.

    1. Grooming kit is a very good point! I should add it to my list. Thank you!! 🙂

    1. Moisturizing is a “must-do” always. We need to hydrate our skin well, it’s the base of our beauty, I think. Thank you! 🙂

  7. These are some great tips. Travelling is always accompanied by hustle and its always important to take care of ourselves especially hair, eyes and skin. Thanks for these tips gonna be very helpful

  8. I always bring blotting paper with me!! I also try not to wear makeup during flights and just apply some powder and lip gloss before landing.

    1. I prefer to visit the ladies room after landing in order to apply makeup, if I feel the need to do so, usually when I travel for business and I have to go to a meeting straight from the airport. Thank you. 🙂

  9. Sometimes it’s hard to travel and look good all the time. But I have to say these tips can be life saver, and prove totally opposite.

  10. These are all great tips! I especially like the one about tinted moisturizer. I’m someone who wears foundation daily and I’ve found tinted moisturizer to be a great alternative when I want something a bit lighter.

I’m moving overseas to Spain this fall. I’ll keep all these in mind for when I make my big trip!

    1. You can never have enough dry shampoo, hahaha. 🙂 I’m glad you agree with me and you find those tips useful. Thank you!

  12. Great tip for puffy eyes. I get them a lot when I travel. Never think of ice. Moisturizing is so important too.

    1. Puffy eyes is my main beauty problem after a long trip, so the ice-tip is really very helpful, I apply it every time.

  13. I’ve never traveled by plane, though I almost had to once, and even if I don’t use make-up, most of the tips are still useful to me too. I mean, they would prove useful, should I ever board on a plane to foreign lands.

    1. You can use those tips on every long trip you may take, even when you are traveling by train or any other mean of transportation. Thank you! 🙂
