Our mood can sometimes become negative in just a second. A bad incident, a failure, a difficult day at work, even a hurtful word from a loved one, can make us feel sad, depressed, unhappy. We all have been there. It may happen in just a moment, but negative mood may stick with us for a very long time. And all of us have had one of those days, when you get up in the morning and everything seems to go wrong. Next time you are feeling down, no matter what the reason, try one of the following, in order to quickly change your mood into a positive one!

Listening to music always has an effect on you. In order to turn around a negative mood, choose your favorite upbeat music, turn the volume up and let yourself enjoy it! 2. Appreciate the positive things

Take a look around and try to concentrate on all the positive things you see. Try to be thankful and appreciative of all the good things you have in your life. You have a job, a family, good friends, you had a good meal, there is a beautiful bouquet of flowers on your desk, etc. Try making a list in your mind, or you can even write it down! Most of the times we ignore or we take for granted so many good things in our life and we focus on the negative ones, torturing ourselves.

3. Smile

Although you are feeling down, put a big smile on your face, a forced one! You can trick your brain into thinking that you are happy, if you are smiling! So, fake it, until you make it! It works in this case, as well!

4. Walk or exercise

It’s a very good idea to take a walk, when you are depressed. You will relax your body and your mind and you will feel better in no time. If you like exercising, this is even better and more effective! All the endorphins your body releases after a workout, can work miracles on your mood!

5. Breath

Take a break and focus on your breathing. Stand still and start inhaling through your nose for a count of four, then exhale for a count of four, again through your nose. Repeat for five times. Empty your mind and concentrate on your breathing. This will relax you and you will feel better.

6. Laugh

Search Youtube or other video platforms on internet for funny videos. Start watching what you find funny and allow yourself to get a good laugh! Your mood will turn around in no time!

If you feel that things around you are a mess, start tidying up and decluttering the space around you. Even little things can help, you don’t need to do a general makeover. When you put everything in order around you, you feel relieved and it will help you put also your feelings in order. I also find that cleaning can make me feel relieved, more relaxed and happier!

  1. Upbeat music is great for improving your mood. But DO make sure that you listen to happy, upbeat music and not sad melancholy music!! Also, talking to someone seems to always help lighten your mood. Just saying out loud what is troubling you usually make the issues seem much less severe and burdensome, compared to how they seem when you keep them all bottled up inside and just dwell on them.
