What to do when you are too tired to do anything

If you are feeling too tired and overwhelmed, then you need to read this!

The last couple of weeks have been a bit of a nightmare for me. A lot of stress, working long, long hours, family health issues, personal issues, all of those have left me too tired to do anything. I don’t know if you’ve ever felt this, I believe most of you have. I feel really exhausted and overwhelmed. I don’t even feel like writing a post for my blog, which is something I love doing. So, what can I do? What can you do, when you are feeling this way?

1. Give yourself a break

First of all, stop feeling guilty. You are only human; you are not a machine. So, it’s not a crime to feel exhausted. I know you probably have a million things on your to-do lists or on your mind, but you cannot make everything happen magically. You need time and energy. So, stop feeling sorry for yourself, or angry and let’s work on those, time and energy.

2. Sleep more

Your body needs rest. If you are going through some tough days and you are too tired, then you are probably not getting enough sleep. I know I can go on for days without getting enough sleep, you are thinking probably the same, but this comes and bites us in the ass eventually. So, in order to help yourself recuperate, you need to sleep more for the next days. Try to sleep earlier, avoid drinking too much coffee, avoid late activities. Before going to bed, avoid your smartphone or your pc. Try reading a book or some relaxing yoga.

3. Eat better

Your body needs more nutrients, when you are exhausted. So, avoid eating unhealthy snacks and try to add more vegetables and fruits in your diet. I know it’s easier said than done, when you are on the move constantly or when you are working long hours, but you have to find a way to consume healthy meals. When we are stressed and exhausted, we tend to eat more junk foods. That only makes things worse for our body. Also, consider taking a multivitamin.

4. Review your schedule

You need to give yourself some time to rest. So, for the next week, review your schedule and cancel anything you can. You may feel like you are falling behind, but that’s not true. You need to regain your strength. After that, you can go on doing everything you usually do. Otherwise, you will just collapse one day. You can even ask for help, as far as housekeeping is concerned or other chores you have to do. You need to slow down for a while.

5. You will come back victoriously

Don’t allow yourself to feel miserable. When you are exhausted and overwhelmed, your mind may play ugly tricks on you. Don’t give into negative thoughts. Stay positive, no matter what. Everything will be all right. And you will get back on your feet as always! You are a winner, so am I!

This post is addressed to everyone who needs support and motivation, when feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, myself included!

Have you ever felt exhausted and overwhelmed? How do you deal with it?

  1. I think this is exactly what I needed, since more and more stress lays ahead, due to all the deadlines approaching. Finals session has just started and so, all the revising and work that has to be done only gives birth to more stress for me. And certainly, the snacks and sleep part need to be improved, from my part…

    1. I’ve been going through a very stressful period lately myself, so I really felt the need to share this post. It works also as a reminder to me! 🙂

    1. I have been working very long hours for many years, so I really know that feeling. Sleep definitely helps a lot. 🙂
