What to do when you hate your job

4 steps that will help you get the job you are dreaming

Our job is one of the most important parts of our lives; just think of how much time we spend working! It can make us feel creative, happy and it can give meaning to our life; or it can make us really miserable, to the point where we have nightmares about it. Being unhappy with our job and forcing ourselves to live in a work environment that we hate, can really damage our health and it can leave us with huge phycological scars. So, if you are really hating your job, here is what you can do!

1. Take a step back and self-reflect

First of all, take a big breath, calm down and take a step back. Think carefully. What is it that really bothers you about your job? Is it too stressful for you? Are your colleagues terrible or is your boss dreadful? Do you believe that you deserve something better? Or you may feel that you need more money. Do you want to go after your dreams?

Whatever the reason, you have to be true to yourself and realistic. You have to spot the real problem, so that you can move to the right direction. If you realize that what bothers you is the position you have in your current job, you may solve your problem by going after a promotion. If you decide that you need to change your job completely, be specific and realistic and decide what you want to do. What will make you happy? You may love your job, but you hate your current work environment; in that case, you need to find a similar job to another company. Be specific. Be sincere to yourself and believe that you can really make a change!

Now you know what you want, but how can you get it?

2. Make a plan

Once you have decided what you want to change about your job, make a detailed plan. First, you have to explore all your options and you have to find more information about the job you are after. Find someone who works at your dream work and learn more details. You want to know everything before going after it. You may find out that it’s not what you really want, so you need to choose a different path. If you don’t have the right qualifications for it, don’t give up! Start working in order to get what you need. It may take more time, but finally getting your dream job will reward your efforts!

3. Start working towards your goal

Once you have a detailed plan on your hands, get moving! The change you want won’t happen magically; you have to work hard and consistently towards your goal. If you need to keep your present job while getting ready for your new one, just be patient and try to focus on the positive side. Your current position is a mean to a better future. It’s temporary, so just breath and smile; better things are coming!

4. Don’t give up

The most important thing is to be persistent. Stay focus on your plan and don’t give up. If you work hard enough, you will get where you want. “There is nothing impossible to him who will try!”, as Alexander the Great said!

Even if you encounter failures on your way, don’t give up! As Maya Angelou said: “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”

So, don’t waste any more time. If you are unhappy at your current job, make the big move! You deserve it!

Have you ever found yourself at a job you hated? What did you do? I can’t wait to read your comments!
